Spotlight on Sweet Potato Pie:

Sweet Potato Pie formed in January 2000 is an all female band specializing in bluegrass, country and gospel music. The band members are wives, mothers, students, and business owners.

Playing traditional bluegrass instruments, the Pie is best known for their vocal harmonies and original music. Earning the nickname the "Sweethearts of Bluegrass", these girls know how to entertain.

Their shows incorporate humor, stories and lots of good toe-tapping music. With their set of traditional songs mixed with their original music you have a delicious concoction that will please any audience.

While the girls describe their music as "sweetgrass", their listeners just call it "lip smacking good!" No matter what you call it, one taste of Sweet Potato Pie and you'll be begging for more. They have 4 CD’s to their credit with their music being played on radio stations around the world.

Sonya Stead is the founding member of the group. As a singer, songwriter she is credited with more than 25 published songs, music for outdoor dramas, and an original stage play. She’s been married for 17 years and has 3 children. She owns a manufacturing and distribution business and enjoys coaching girl’s basketball and volleyball in the community.

Missy Pyne has been with the group since 2003. Missy is the lead vocalist for the Pie. She has an incredible vocal range and can bring a song to life like the legends of the Opry. She plays mandolin and recently wrote “Carolina Kisses” which is featured on our new release “Nothing’s the Same”. Missy is married with 3 kids and owns and operates a preschool. She enjoys going to the beach and being outdoors.

Crystal Richardson joined the Pie in 2007 to play banjo. Crystal grew up playing traditional bluegrass and has been a big part of the group’s current success. She picks like Earl Scruggs and sings like Patsy Cline. Crystal is married with 2 kids and works with a food preparation company. She enjoys watching racing and professional football.

Ashley Davis plays fiddle with the group. Ashley’s a mere 20 years old, but she plays like an old soul. She’s a college student working toward a music management degree. She works with a heating and air company and her only pastime is MUSIC!

Julie Brown signed on with the band in December 2008 to play the upright bass. Julie is an experienced player with a depth that’s hard to match. She’s a Renaissance woman that paints, spins, sews, rides horses and was once ranked second in the nation in the sport of ATV racing. She’s married and owns and operates a heating oil company.
